Caterers Durham – Plan Ahead For The Year

As we step into the new year, with slightly less Covid-19 restrictions and the climate looking much better, this year planning an event looks like it’s going to be a lot easier than the previous two years. As caterers in Durham, this is great news and we’re planning on a year with no restrictions which means you can plan and party until your hear is content. For some you may wish to celebrate a birthday or anniversary that you weren’t able to fully celebrate over the last two years and for others there will be new events on the horizon that you will be looking to celebrate this year. Whatever the event is, make sure you plan ahead, get your caterers booked so you can enjoy it when the day arrives. In this blog we are going to outline the best ways to plan ahead so you are fully prepared.

Go Venue Hunting

Once you know how many guests you are inviting, or you may already know, you’ll need a venue that can hold them all and anything else that you will be doing on the day. Do you need a hotel that has suites people can book? Do you need a wide-open space for a marquee and outdoor activities? Searching and securing your venue as soon as possible will mean that you avoid any disappointment if you leave it a little too late.

Book Your Caterers

Choose a caterer that can fulfil the needs of all your guests. You’ll have people with certain dietary requirements, vegetarians and vegans. Make sure you cater for them all! Luckily for you, we can do all that. With our delicious hog roast we can amp the party up even more and we can cater for all requirements. Our hog roast paired with our roast potatoes, salads and then puddings will be a real treat for your guests. Take a look at our Event Packages or contact us today.

Entertainment

Always bear entertainment in mind. If you’re planning for the summer it’s likely you’ll be both indoors and outdoors and with the evenings being lighter you’ll need some form of entertainment. That could be a disco, outdoor games or even karaoke! Do something that will get your guests up and interacting!

Event Catering North East… What licensing do you require for an event?

As a professional catering service, to provide event catering across the North East, did you know that you need a Temporary Events Notice (TEN) if you would like to carry out a licensable activity on an unlicensed premises in England or Wales? It’s important that you are aware of what is classed as a licensable activity…

  • Selling alcohol
  • Selling alcohol to members of a private club
  • Providing entertainment such as music, dancing or indoor sporting events
  • Serving hot food or drink between 11pm and 5am

Quite often you will require a TEN if a certain licensable activity is not included in your existing licence. This could be holding a wedding reception at a community centre or village hall for example.

What are the restrictions?

Anyone who is looking to apply for a TEN must be at least 18 or over otherwise your application will not be processed. Your event must…

  • Last no more than 7 days
  • Have less than 500 people at all times- this includes all staff who maybe helping at the event

For every event you hold you must apply for a TEN. You are able to get up to 5 TENS per year however, if you hold a personal licence that allows you to sell alcohol, you are able to apply for up to 50 TENS a year.

If you are hosting multiple events at the same premises throughout a period of time you are able to apply for up to 15 TENS in one year as long as the length of the events is no more than 21 says.

How do you apply?

To apply for your TEN licence you must speak to your local council and have applied at least 10 working days clear before the event (this does not include the day the council receive your application).

There will be a small fee of £21 to pay and you will be required to send a copy of the TEN to both the police and environmental health at least 10 working days before the event. If you happen to apply online, the local council will notify both parties for you.

The Acorn Hog Roast team love catering at all your events! Whether it be a christening, wedding party or corporate event. For more information about our event catering across the North East, contact us today via our website or call 07513919166.

The run up to Christmas starts now!

As soon as Halloween has passed, the shops are filled with Christmas goodies. From decorations to festive party food, they have everything that you need for the most magical time of the year. As we prepare for Christmas, we understand the struggle of trying to remember everything that you need for the big day. With presents for all the family to remember, what time the turkey needs to go in the oven and if you have got everything… we are going to provide you with a Christmas checklist. Stay cool, calm and collected this Christmas!

Fill in your calendar

Once Halloween has passed, start to fill in your calendar for December. There is no doubt you will have been overrun with invitations to Christmas parties so start to add them to your calendar so can plan around them. It’s also wise to pencil in when you will be collecting the turkey, any days you have planned to go Christmas shopping or any family traditions that you have.

Start to budget

Christmas is a costly time for everyone and a time where we like to treat our loved ones. So, write a list of gift ideas as early as possible so you can pick them up whenever you see them. If you leave your food shopping and present shopping late, you will be sure to spend much more money.

Write your Christmas Cards

The earlier you write your Christmas cards the better as you can get them posted. The vast majority of people send Christmas cards and gifts at this time so there is always the possibility if delays when sending items in the post. To add to the festivities, you could make your very own family Christmas cards!

Black Friday

We all love a bargain which means Black Friday is the perfect time to get some of your Christmas presents at a discounted price! As online shopping has evolved, you can find deals all over the internet on the run up to Black Friday.

Decorate

When do you usually put your Christmas decorations up? A popular date tends to be the first weekend in December. And we would recommend getting into the festive spirit by decking your halls in early December too. Use the whole of December to celebrate and enjoy cosy nights in with twinkling Christmas tree lights.

Send your letter to Santa

It’s important that at the very start of December you send your letter to Santa Claus so that he gets it in plenty of time. Don’t forget to include your name and address so he can write back to you and deliver your presents on Christmas.

Wrap your presents

Don’t leave present wrapping right until the last minute. Give yourself plenty of time to wrap each present and get them under the tree. Even just wrapping one or two each day will save you panicking and wrapping them all at once.

Do your Christmas food shop

Go to the supermarkets armed with your shopping lists and bags for life so that you get everything you need for this time. Set aside a couple of hours to take your time and ensure that you get everything that you need. Be prepared for it to be busy and for some shops to be sold out of the items you are looking for. Always have a backup or try another shop that is close by for the items you can’t find.

Party Hard

Christmas is finally here! Make the most of a day filled with joy, celebrate with your loved ones and eat everything that is in sight! It’s Christmas, you’re allowed to be a little bit naughty.

If you are planning a Christmas Party, choose Acorn Hog Roast as your caterer! We offer a number of event packages and have one to suit you. You can contact us for more information on 07513 919166.

The Most Popular Types Of Party Venues

Are you planning an event? Whether it be a christening, birthday party, wedding, anniversary or sport event you need a venue that will hold all of your guests and have all of the features that you desire. Once you have a venue picked, all of the other items you need to organise such as decoration will fall into place as you can vision where everything is going to go. There are a wide range of venue types that you can choose form and it is important to choose the right venue based on your event.

Below we have provided you with some of the different venue types you could consider for you event…

Conference Centre
While hotels can be lavish and have onsite accommodation a conference centre will provide you with an enormous amount of space. They are also always close to accommodation so that should never be an issue and sometimes there are onsite suites. You will have space for hundreds of guests and more meaning you can split the room into different sections. You could have a dining area, dance floor, games section, bar and much more all under one roof!

Barns
Barns aren’t just for animals, in recent times some of the most stylish and luxury weddings and parties have been in barns creating a rustic charm to the event. You can add modern touches to the venue and be away from the hustle and bustle of towns and cities. Plus, with a barn or country party you have the added bonus of the most stunning backdrops.

Garden
In the height of summer there is nothing better than enjoying delicious food and the company of your friends and family outdoors in the sunshine. Add to the event by surrounding you and your guests with fresh foliage and gorgeous flowers. Having the flowers and greenery will mean less cost for you, as technically, you won’t need to decorate as much.

Stately Home
Have you always dreamed of hosting your very own party in your home but it’s not big enough? Have you considered hosting a party at a stately home/ mansion? Renting/ hiring a venue like this will allow you and your guests to use all amenities such as the pool and the grounds surrounding the house.

The Acorn Hog Roast team can provide catering for any of your events. Our delicious, signature hog roast will definitely be one of the talking points at your party. Learn more about our Event Packages on our website: www.acornhogroast.co.uk or contact us on 07513 919166.

Steps To Follow When Organising Your Wedding!

Your wedding day is one of the most magical days of your life! It is a day where you have your family and friends around you and you, and your partner celebrate the love you have for each other. As caterers, we understand that preparing for a big event such as your wedding can be extremely stressful. Therefore, we have provided you with a number of steps to follow to make the build-up to your wedding as stress free as possible.

Set A Realistic Budget
The first thing many people think of is the budget and how expensive a wedding can be. Plan out how much you have to spend on each aspect of your wedding. Start with the larger items such as catering as you have all your guests to feed and then work down to smaller items such as the finer details like chair covers, ribbons and table numbers. Not planning a wedding budget can cause a lot of stress later on down the line as you get closer to your wedding as your suppliers start asking for you to pay the full amount or the second half of your payments.

Choose Your Theme
There is no doubt that from the moment you get engaged you will be looking for different wedding inspiration. After hours of scrolling through social media and Pinterest, it’ll become clear what style of wedding you are looking for. You may choose a few colours as the theme of your wedding, or you may have a full theme such as black tie that you base your wedding around. Knowing what theme, you are going for will make it easier for you to order from suppliers as they will have something to base your products off. However, one piece of advice we would like to give you- once you have chosen a theme, stick to it as once you change things will become unclear and you won’t be sure which theme you prefer.

Finding The Venue
Don’t just look at one single venue. Look at a few different locations as this will allow you to get a feel for what you like and don’t like. Visit places you wouldn’t normally consider. You can look at hotels and spas, wedding barns, rural locations and a whole host of other locations. Your wedding venue will also help to determine your date and how many guests you can invite. From the very start, it is important that you make it clear what you both would like so that you can meet in the middle or if you have the same dream find somewhere you both love!

Choose Your Wedding Party
Many people instantly know who they would like their maid of honour, bridesmaids, best man and groomsmen to be. However, some take a little time to think about it. Don’t feel rushed into your decision and think carefully about who the best support to you on the run will be up to your wedding and on your special day. When considering your wedding party you may want to factor into your budget outfits, gifts, bouquets and everything else you need your entourage to have on the big day.

At Acorn Hog Roast, we are also here to make your wedding day the most enjoyable and magical day for you, your partner and family. With our delicious Hog Roast, we can provide you with the perfect wedding Event Package! The food we provide will also get your guests talking or all of the right reasons.
