Keeping Your Guests Cool When They’re In Party Mode

We all know how unpredictable the British weather is and in recent weeks we have experienced two very hot heatwaves… which we are not complaining about as they are perfect for delicious hog roasts in Darlington and across the North East! But when you are looking to get out, explore and party the heat can turn you off as it’s no fun being too hot that you can’t cope. In this blog, we have highlighted out tips for keeping your guests cool when you are partying during the summer months, or a heatwave.

Night-time Events

The simplest and easiest way of keeping your guests cool is partying into the night, when you are not in direct sunlight. Outdoor areas also provide you with shelter and space to keep out of the sun if you are outside before it has set. Plus, partying while the sun is setting will create a lovely atmosphere and give your guests something extra to watch. Ps… also think about the pictures you could have taken!

Keep away from flames

If you are our for a good time, its’ important to keep your guests away from any fires, flames and the kitchen as this is where they are likely to overheat. Unfortunately, if you are opting for hot food at your event, it’s always going to make a hot day even hotter so you may need to consider a cold option to help both you and your guests cool throughout the day and night.

Stay in the shade & keep hydrated

If you have the space to put up parasols or an outdoor living area with a canopy this will help to keep the direct sunlight of your guests and the food… and the food is very important! Have jugs or bottles of water available for your guests to help themselves too as hydration is key any day but especially in the heat.

Here at Acorn Hog Roast we are on hand to help with your catering needs and provide you with unforgettably delicious hog roasts in Darlington and across the North East. Talk to us about our event packages today! To get in touch call us on 07513 919166 or visit www.acornhogroast.co.uk

Congratulations! You’re Getting Married

A huge congratulations, the time that you have been waiting for is finally here and it is time for you to start planning one of the most magical days of your life! We know from organising many events and attending our customer events over the years how stressful it can be for you. So, take this opportunity to read our guide on organising your wedding.

Take it easy

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming at times as there are so many different elements you need to think about from what time you need your bridal team to arrive to the flower arrangements, dietary requirements and everything in between. If you feel as though you may struggle doing a lot of the work on your own, there is always the option of hiring a professional to help you with everything you need on the run up to your big day.

Make a list of all the priorities

Every wedding is different. Some people like to be very traditional, and others like to include non-traditional features such as no one there when they have the last dance of the night. What will you choose to do at your wedding? By determining what the most important aspects of the day are and what you both would like is vital. By outlining the priorities, you will be able to remain in budget.

What style are you going for?

When you begin looking at wedding dresses or suits, you’ll know exactly what style you like, what compliments your figure and the colour you are going for. Take inspiration from research you do and see what others have done. They style you choose will help determine much more than your suit or dress. Other aspects will fall into place such as the venue, colour scheme, the type of flowers and much more!

Create a checklist

Having an overall checklist where you can tick each item off when complete will give you peace of mind that you are making progress and you can see what is left to be completed. This will help you visualise your priorities without being overwhelmed all at once.

Tis the season…

When would you like your magical day to take place? Summer? Winter? Autumn? Spring? It’s an important question and it may also have an impact of outfits for not only you but your guests too. If you are going for the peak of summer this could also cause the price of the venue to increase and travel costs.

Guest list

It’s time to think about exactly who you would like to invite. Are you going for close family and friends only and then open it up on the evening to extended relatives? Or are you going to have everyone there from start to finish? Either way you need to give them plenty of notice to sort travel and accommodation.

Book your venue viewings

Whether you have the ideal venue in place or you are completely unsure, it’s important to look at a few different venue locations and styles to see what it is that draws you in. Even there is a venue and package you have fallen in love with, you still need to look at others as you don’t want to make a decision you regret.

Add those all-important personal touches

Every wedding needs to have a personal touch that is either significant to you and your family or it might be something only you and your partner share between you. Don’t be afraid to continue a family tradition or create your own new traditions on your wedding day.

Make sure that everything is in place

Have you booked your officiant? Caterers? DJ? You must cross check everything with your checklist as there is nothing you want to miss.

Say thank you!

A simple thank you can go a long way at the end of your wedding. Whoever has made the speech, make sure to give everyone a mention. Every person that helped you to set up, you don’t need to name them individually, everyone who has celebrated and supported you.

An excuse to get dressed up and party the day and night away. In this blog we have provided you with some tips for celebrating a glitz and glamour party.

First things first…

Now, a glitz and glamour party is your time to shine, add a little bit of sparkle to the day and throw one amazing party. When you think of glitz and glamour, what do you think of? A red carpet? Champagne? Good food? Well, you can have it all. If you’re celebrating a 21st party, wedding anniversary or you’re hosting a ball, glitz and glamour is no safe option but it will definitely get your guests talking for all of the right reasons.

Firstly, you need to think about what’s going to be included and the colour theme you are going for. Red and gold or black and sparkly? They are two very popular options for this party theme.

Party Catering County Durham – Making Your Parties Sustainable

Here at Acorn Hog Roast we are expert caterers, providing professional party catering in County Durham and across the North East. Party season can be at any time of the year and you don’t always need an excuse to have a few friends round, enjoy each other’s company and have some delicious food! Whether you are throwing a dinner party, wedding or a birthday it’s time to start using eco-friendly options and do your part for the environment. Parties have been created for you to have a good time and they can be just as fun when using environmentally friendly products. To help you get started with your eco-friendly party take a look at our guidance below…

Party Décor

For every successful party you need your venue to be kitted out and looking the part. Decorations add to the event and take it up to a new level. Paper banners and bunting can make parties look much more elegant and create a lot less waste. You can now customise your decorations when you order them so that they are all ready for you to put straight up. Alternatively, if you purchase general decorations that are still birthday themed for example, you can use them at your next birthday party that you hold.

To enhance your colour scheme a new modern decoration that has been used by many is filling mason jars with the theme coloured sweets. If you are having a jungle themed party you can fill and distribute mason jars with green sweets which your guests can admire and also enjoy the taste of!

Digitalise Your Invitations

We understand that sometimes receiving an invitation in the post and having it physically is a really nice touch. However, sending your guests virtual invites or emailing the invite you would have printed will save you both time and money. Plus, you could even add onto your invitation that it is an environmentally friendly party! Let your friends and family know that you are making positive changes.

Good Food

For a successful party you need good food. Using local businesses means less mileage used by all. Whether you are collecting your food or having someone deliver it to you. If they are local it’ll take them a lot less time in a vehicle. Plus, if you choose a local company like Acorn Hog Roast, we’re just down the road and can be at your event in no time at all. We’d be happy to cater for your event. Simply choose one of our event packages and contact our team for a quote.

Crockery & Tableware

Washing the dishes isn’t everyone’s favourite job but it is much more environmentally friendly than using plastic utensils and paper plates. If you would rather not use your normal day to day plates, have finger food where possible or choose a meal that reduces the need for plates like a hog roast. If you have linen reusable napkins you can use these to hold and catch anything that you may drop from your pulled pork sandwich.

Will you be making your next party of event as eco-friendly as possible? Enjoy your guest’s company and let our team take care of your party catering in County Durham. Find out about the areas we cover or contact us today on 07513919166.

As caterers in Durham, this is great news and we’re planning on a year with no restrictions which means you can plan and party until your hear is content. Whatever the event is, make sure you plan ahead, get your caterers booked so you can enjoy it when the day arrives. In this blog we are going to outline the best ways to plan ahead so you are fully prepared.

Go Venue Hunting

Once you know how many guests you are inviting, or you may already know, you’ll need a venue that can hold them all and anything else that you will be doing on the day. Do you need a hotel that has suites people can book? Do you need a wide-open space for a marquee and outdoor activities? Searching and securing your venue as soon as possible will mean that you avoid any disappointment if you leave it a little too late.

Book Your Caterers

Choose a caterer that can fulfil the needs of all your guests. You’ll have people with certain dietary requirements, vegetarians and vegans. Make sure you cater for them all! Luckily for you, we can do all that. With our delicious hog roast we can amp the party up even more and we can cater for all requirements. Our hog roast paired with our roast potatoes, salads and then puddings will be a real treat for your guests. Take a look at our Event Packages or contact us today.

Entertainment

Always bear entertainment in mind. If you’re planning for the summer it’s likely you’ll be both indoors and outdoors and with the evenings being lighter you’ll need some form of entertainment. That could be a disco, outdoor games or even karaoke! Do something that will get your guests up and interacting!

Event Catering North East… What licensing do you require for an event?

As a professional catering service, to provide event catering across the North East, did you know that you need a Temporary Events Notice (TEN) if you would like to carry out a licensable activity on an unlicensed premises in England or Wales? It’s important that you are aware of what is classed as a licensable activity…

  • Selling alcohol
  • Selling alcohol to members of a private club
  • Providing entertainment such as music, dancing or indoor sporting events
  • Serving hot food or drink between 11pm and 5am

Quite often you will require a TEN if a certain licensable activity is not included in your existing licence. This could be holding a wedding reception at a community centre or village hall for example.

What are the restrictions?

Anyone who is looking to apply for a TEN must be at least 18 or over otherwise your application will not be processed. Your event must…

  • Last no more than 7 days
  • Have less than 500 people at all times- this includes all staff who maybe helping at the event

For every event you hold you must apply for a TEN. You are able to get up to 5 TENS per year however, if you hold a personal licence that allows you to sell alcohol, you are able to apply for up to 50 TENS a year.

If you are hosting multiple events at the same premises throughout a period of time you are able to apply for up to 15 TENS in one year as long as the length of the events is no more than 21 says.

How do you apply?

To apply for your TEN licence you must speak to your local council and have applied at least 10 working days clear before the event (this does not include the day the council receive your application).

There will be a small fee of £21 to pay and you will be required to send a copy of the TEN to both the police and environmental health at least 10 working days before the event. If you happen to apply online, the local council will notify both parties for you.

The Acorn Hog Roast team love catering at all your events! Whether it be a christening, wedding party or corporate event. For more information about our event catering across the North East, contact us today via our website or call 07513919166.

The run up to Christmas starts now!

As soon as Halloween has passed, the shops are filled with Christmas goodies. From decorations to festive party food, they have everything that you need for the most magical time of the year. As we prepare for Christmas, we understand the struggle of trying to remember everything that you need for the big day. With presents for all the family to remember, what time the turkey needs to go in the oven and if you have got everything… we are going to provide you with a Christmas checklist. Stay cool, calm and collected this Christmas!

Fill in your calendar

Once Halloween has passed, start to fill in your calendar for December. There is no doubt you will have been overrun with invitations to Christmas parties so start to add them to your calendar so can plan around them. It’s also wise to pencil in when you will be collecting the turkey, any days you have planned to go Christmas shopping or any family traditions that you have.

Start to budget

Christmas is a costly time for everyone and a time where we like to treat our loved ones. So, write a list of gift ideas as early as possible so you can pick them up whenever you see them. If you leave your food shopping and present shopping late, you will be sure to spend much more money.

Write your Christmas Cards

The earlier you write your Christmas cards the better as you can get them posted. The vast majority of people send Christmas cards and gifts at this time so there is always the possibility if delays when sending items in the post. To add to the festivities, you could make your very own family Christmas cards!

Black Friday

We all love a bargain which means Black Friday is the perfect time to get some of your Christmas presents at a discounted price! As online shopping has evolved, you can find deals all over the internet on the run up to Black Friday.

Decorate

When do you usually put your Christmas decorations up? A popular date tends to be the first weekend in December. And we would recommend getting into the festive spirit by decking your halls in early December too. Use the whole of December to celebrate and enjoy cosy nights in with twinkling Christmas tree lights.

Send your letter to Santa

It’s important that at the very start of December you send your letter to Santa Claus so that he gets it in plenty of time. Don’t forget to include your name and address so he can write back to you and deliver your presents on Christmas.

Wrap your presents

Don’t leave present wrapping right until the last minute. Give yourself plenty of time to wrap each present and get them under the tree. Even just wrapping one or two each day will save you panicking and wrapping them all at once.

Do your Christmas food shop

Go to the supermarkets armed with your shopping lists and bags for life so that you get everything you need for this time. Set aside a couple of hours to take your time and ensure that you get everything that you need. Be prepared for it to be busy and for some shops to be sold out of the items you are looking for. Always have a backup or try another shop that is close by for the items you can’t find.

Party Hard

Christmas is finally here! Make the most of a day filled with joy, celebrate with your loved ones and eat everything that is in sight! It’s Christmas, you’re allowed to be a little bit naughty.

If you are planning a Christmas Party, choose Acorn Hog Roast as your caterer! We offer a number of event packages and have one to suit you. You can contact us for more information on 07513 919166.
